Rustic Garden Basket
My Little Rustic Garden Basket |
I have recently become interested in creating my own crochet patterns. I am usually much more of a knitter! This is one of the first patterns that I have created.
I wanted a little basket could be used to collect
vegetables growing in the garden. I developed the pattern using some simple jute twine from the garden
centre. I found the basket to be so useful that I made another; this one is
currently being used to hold some of my craft materials and balls of yarn.
The pattern is also available as a free download on Ravelry.
I hope you like it as much as I do!
Rustic Garden Basket

This little rustic garden basket is made from rough garden
twine. The base is approximately 30 cm in diameter and the sides are 15 cm
deep.
I have used a rough brown garden twine and a size 6 mm
crochet hook. You will also need a very
large sewing needle.
In 10 cm: you should
have 10 stitches and 6 rows.
(hdc – half double crochet (US terminology) : in UK terminology
this is called htr – half treble crochet)
First section (the base):
Starting with a chain of six, looped and joined into a
circle.
Round 1) chain 2 , 10 hdc: in first circle
Round 2) chain 2 , 20 hdc: (2 in each)
Round 3) chain 2 , 30 hdc: (2 hdc ,1 hdc *repeat)
Round 4) chain 2 , 40 hdc: (2 hdc ,1 hdc ,1 hdc *repeat)
Round 5) chain 2 , 50 hdc: (2 hdc ,1 hdc ,1 hdc ,1 hdc
*repeat)
Round 6) chain 2 , 60 hdc: (2 hdc ,1 hdc ,1 hdc ,1 hdc ,1
hdc *repeat)
Round 7) chain 2 , 70 hdc: (2 hdc ,1 hdc ,1 hdc ,1 hdc ,1
hdc , 1 hdc *repeat)
Round 8) chain 2 , 80 hdc: (2 hdc ,1 hdc ,1 hdc ,1 hdc ,1
hdc , 1 hdc , 1 hdc *repeat)
Remember to join together at the end of each round using a
slip stitch.
===================================
Second section (the sides):
Round 9) chain 2 , 80
hdc in top loop only
Rounds 10 to 15) chain 2 , 80 hdc in two loops of previous
row
* In each repeat of row 10 alternate which two of the three
loops to form a horizontal ribbing like pattern
Once again, remembering to join at the end of each round
using a slip stich.
===================================
Third Section (the handles):
Round 16) chain 2 , 15 hdc , chain 10 (leave a gap of 10
stiches below) , 30 hdc , chain 10, 15 hdc
Round 17) chain 2 , 80 hdc (hdc over chain)
Join at the end of both rounds using a slip stich. Secure
thread on final round.
Sew in the ends.
